BEAN STATION – When emergency crews arrive at scenes involving children, the moments can be frightening and overwhelming. Thanks to a recent donation, first responders in Bean Station now have a small but powerful tool to help ease those moments.
The Bean Station Volunteer Fire Department announced December 30, 2025, that it has received a supply of “Tommy Moose” stuffed animals from the Morristown Moose Lodge. The plush toys will be carried in emergency vehicles and given to children who are experiencing stressful or traumatic situations during emergency calls.
Fire officials said the stuffed animals are intended to provide comfort and reassurance at scenes such as vehicle crashes, medical emergencies or fires, helping calm children while responders focus on care and safety.
The Tommy Moose program is a nationwide outreach effort supported by the Loyal Order of Moose, a fraternal and service organization founded in 1888. Through the program, Moose lodges across the United States and Canada donate Tommy Moose plush dolls to police, fire and emergency medical agencies. According to the organization, more than 100,000 of the stuffed animals have been distributed to emergency responders over the years.
The Loyal Order of Moose has more than 900,000 members and operates roughly 1,300 lodges across 49 states, four Canadian provinces and Great Britain. The organization is known for its charitable focus on children, seniors and community support.
Bean Station firefighters expressed gratitude to the Morristown Moose Lodge for the donation, noting that the stuffed animals will make a meaningful difference during difficult calls involving young residents.
