Grainger county students earn Walters State foundation scholarships

RUTLEDGE — Twelve Grainger County students have been awarded Walters State Community College Foundation scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year, marking a proud moment for families, schools and the community. These awards recognize hard work, determination and a commitment to pursuing higher education. The list does not include recipients of the Walters State Promise or Tennessee Promise programs.

From Bean Station, Garrett Miller, a pre-engineering major, earned the Olen H. and Mildred C. Marshall Memorial Scholarship. Olive Hill, a nursing career mobility major, received the Jackie Burchell Long Memorial Endowment Scholarship.

From Blaine, Eliza Allen, an accounting major, received the Senators Distinction Scholarship.

From Rutledge, Jennifer Bustamente, a health information management major, earned the Jackie Burchell Long Memorial Endowment Scholarship. Kennedy Halbert, an agriculture major, received the Neil D. Miller Scholarship. Makenzie West, a nursing major, received the Olen H. and Mildred C. Marshall Memorial Scholarship. Marley Hipsher, an agriculture major, earned the Dr. R. Lynn Gilmore and Mary Lynn Stiner Gilmore Endowed Scholarship.

From Thorn Hill, Zavoy West, a mathematics major, received the Senators Distinction Scholarship.

From Washburn, Kylie Nicely, a biology major, received the Senators Distinction Scholarship. Lilly Cook, a Pre-K–3 teaching major, earned the Arnold Dwight England Memorial Scholarship. Megan Beeler, a nursing major, received the Presidential Scholarship.

Tyler Gulley, a health sciences major, received the Senators Excellence Foundation Scholarship.

The Walters State Community College Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that raises private support for the college and its students. The foundation serves as the official fundraising arm of Walters State and is governed by a board of trustees dedicated to student success.

These students represent the next generation of leaders, caregivers, engineers and educators across Grainger County. Their achievements reflect the promise and potential found across each corner of our community.
