How early is too early

Posted on Friday, November 14, 2025  by Austin Dalton

Every year, as soon as the first leaf hits the ground, the debate begins, how early is too early to start decorating for Christmas?

Some say not until the turkey leftovers are gone and the last of the pumpkin pie has vanished. Others are stringing lights and unboxing ornaments before Halloween candy has even disappeared from the shelves.

I’ve heard both sides. Some believe Thanksgiving deserves its moment, a time to slow down, give thanks, and soak in the warmth of fall before rushing into the sparkle of the next season. Others can’t help but feel the pull of Christmas early, craving that cozy glow of twinkling lights and the comfort of familiar carols long before the calendar says it’s time.

But maybe, just maybe, there isn’t a “too early.”

Because if decorating for Christmas in early November brings you joy, then why wait? If a tree full of memories helps lift your spirits on a dark evening, or the scent of pine and cinnamon makes your home feel peaceful, then who’s to say it’s wrong?

We live in a world that moves too fast, filled with stress, noise, and deadlines. If the simple act of hanging stockings or turning on the lights helps you slow down, breathe, and smile, that’s worth celebrating.

Whether you wait until Black Friday or begin the moment the calendar flips to November, let happiness be your timeline. After all, the true spirit of the holidays isn’t about when you start, it’s about why you start.

So this season, I say decorate early, decorate late, or don’t decorate at all, just do what brings your heart peace. Because joy doesn’t follow a schedule.
