WASHBURN – Motorists traveling along State Route 131 in Grainger County should prepare for traffic delays beginning Monday, January 12, 2026, as construction activities will reduce traffic to one lane in portions of the roadway.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, one-lane closures will take place in two locations within the project limits to allow contractors to complete tie-ins for the new roadway alignment over Williams Creek.
The first reduction to one lane will occur near James West Lane. Once work is completed in that area, the one-lane closure will shift to the northern end of the project.
TDOT officials said one lane of traffic will remain open at all times with traffic controlled by temporary signals to maintain the safety of both motorists and construction crews.
Drivers traveling through the area during the closures are advised to obey the temporary traffic signals and use caution. TDOT estimates the one-lane configuration will remain in place through February 9, 2026, weather permitting. Motorists are encouraged to plan and allow extra travel time while the work is underway.
