BLAINE — A local Christmas toy drive is working to bring joy and comfort to children who might otherwise go without this holiday season. Led by Kayla Langley, the effort invites the community to give from the heart and help make Christmas morning brighter for kids in need.
Langley said her inspiration came from a simple desire to share happiness, especially during what she calls the most important time of the year. “I enjoy sharing happiness and this was a way during the most important time of the year. Kids look forward to Christmas, and I want to help them feel special and help the parents enjoying watching those little moments,” she said.
Donations must come from smoke-free homes and be in good condition. Community members can drop toys off early on November 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 329 Old Rutledge Pike W in Blaine. A second drop-off event will take place December 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 450 Milligan Lane in Blaine.
Langley said she hopes each donated toy brings more than excitement. “I hope I can shine a light and teach them that kindness goes along ways even with a small toy. I pray this toy drive shows families, that this world has good people that will care for you even when you have never met them,” she said.
She also shared that every gift, no matter the size, carries real impact. “Those toys could impact the kids by giving them joy, believing in good, excitement, a healing tool and could help them in their motor skills. I know these kids will be so thankful and if not, we still came together and done what the Lord has called for us to do.”
Langley said helping children in her own community feels especially meaningful. “Being able to build stronger relationships within your local community. I hope it teaches hopefulness, kindness, respect and about giving back to the community,” she said.
Organizers encourage anyone able to donate to do so before Christmas. Toys can be new or gently used. Anyone with questions can reach Langley through Facebook Messenger.
As Christmas draws near, Langley said she hopes this effort not only meets needs but also reminds families of the good still found in neighbors willing to step forward and give.
For many children this season, the community’s kindness may be the gift they remember most.
