HARROGATE – John Sewell’s freshman history class at Washburn High School visited Lincoln Memorial Museum at Lincoln Memorial University Tuesday, September 9 to learn more about the 16th President of the United States. Sewell said they do this annually with the freshmen class.
Students shared their observations of the tour.
“The LMU trip to the Lincoln Museum was awesome, the director described everything very well,” said Nolan Harville.
Tate Clay said, “The trip was very good for me. It was also very historic for some who had not been there before.”
The museum traces Lincoln’ s journey from the frontier to the White House, his conduct of the Civil War, the last days of his life, a history of LMU and a collection of Confederate weapons and wartime medical instruments.
“I think the Abe Lincoln trip was awesome because of the cabins outside. They made it feel like you were back in those times. The cabins were my favorite also because of how they were structured,” said Will Cornett.
Emily Hankins added, “ It was very educational and informative. I actually enjoyed hearing about old memories of his family and while he was in office.”
“The museum was really cool to see all the different cloths, cabins and horse carriages and tools they would use for wounds and to amputate limps and things they used during that time period.” said, Tenley Helms.
“The trip to Lincoln Museum was fun and very interesting,” said Zoey Taylor.
Brooklyn Bowlin said, “The trip to LMU Lincoln Museum was very fun and informative. There were so many different items from that time period. So much information was there.”
