BLAINE — Plans for a new Weigel’s store in Blaine are back on track after years of delay.

A company representative appeared before the Blaine Planning Commission on November 3 seeking approval for construction at the intersection of Rutledge Pike and Indian Ridge Road. The proposal includes a 6,600-square-foot “Gen 4” store, eight gas pumps and a car wash, Mayor Marvin Braden said.

Commission members granted preliminary approval for the project. Braden said construction is expected to be completed by the end of next summer.

Weigel’s first announced plans for the site in 2010, holding a groundbreaking that October before suspending the project in 2013 due to traffic and economic concerns.
